When we bought our building, we found that we had this amazing old cast iron light fixture with a milk glass globe hanging above the old garage door on the Fletcher street side. We knew we had to do something special with this historical piece but in the beginning, we just weren’t sure what.
In doing some research about our building we found out that years ago it was MacFarlane Motors before they relocated to their current location. Wayne and Jenny MacFarlane were kind enough to share some old photos with us. If you look above the garage door in the photo below you can see the old light fixture hanging.
We took down the light fixture from the exterior of our building and were faced with the task of restoring it back to some former glory. The cast iron base has really cool old design carved into it that was pretty covered in rust. We carefully cleaned it up with a wire brush. It came out amazing and we finished it off with a light coat of fresh paint.
The globe was a different story with the dirt and rust stains on it. Not to mention the gross build up of bugs inside! It took a lot of elbow grease and careful scrubbing to clean it up.
As our renovations started to take shape, we found the perfect spot for the light in our taproom directly above our main entrance.
Finally the day we were waiting for came and we were able to put the light up in its new home.
We can’t wait for everyone to see it!
